New food contaminants elimination unit

We are proud to announce that, despite Covid-19 pandemic, we have managed to integrate into our refinery plant and put into operation a new unit for the elimination of glycidil esters (GE) from our refined olive pomace oil.

Upon completion of this new investment, our olive pomace oil complies to the new European Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/290 which sets the maximum levels for glycidyl fatty acid esters (GE) in vegetable oils and fats. Moreover, we are among the first refineries worldwide implementing measures to minimize GE contaminants from olive pomace oil.

Glycidol fatty acid esters are food contaminants found in vegetable oils and fats. These esters are hydrolyzed to glycidol in the gastrointestinal tract.

EFSA concluded that glycidol is a genotoxic and carcinogenic compound.
